Computers are now part of an individual’s daily life.

Computers are now standard technology in a majority of households and is definitely a required piece of equipment in any office be it private companies or government institutions. Unfortunately although it is as mundane as a toothbrush it is at least a hundred times more costly and is therefore prone to attention from unsavory elements. This is the reason why computer’s need to be secured and computer cable locks are a solid and economical way of discouraging theft.

A computer cable lock system is made up of several components and the security cable is one of the primary pieces. The use of security cables is not unique to this system. Security cables a.k.a. Cable locks are still being used to provide protection for a variety of personal or corporate property.  Its popularity stems from its deceptively high resistance to being severed even if it is not as thick as chains others use and it is lighter and more flexible. The system also has what they call fasteners, brackets or security plates.  These plates join your computer peripherals with just one cable running thru them all. If your computer tower, screen and other peripherals have steel holes already built in you can bypass using the plates and simply run the cables thru those. If your computer and its peripherals don’t have those holes or built in brackets then you’ll need to fasten the plates on the equipment using superglue.  Next thread the cable thru the tab holes on the attached plates and lock the end of the security cable to the table or desk or a security anchor. The cables are locked using either a combination padlock or a key type padlock. Generally computer cable lock systems with a combination padlock are cheaper and keyed ones cost a bit more as for the user’s convenience there are different options to secure or lock the system. These options are the keyed-alike or 1 key per kit. Keyed-different and master-keyed has 2 keys per kit. The flexibility of the locking mechanism permits for more than one kind of configuration in order to take into account user needs because there could be several peripherals and not just the monitor or mouse.

The popular cable lock brands in the market usually have a basic set priced as low as $20 to $40 depending on the thickness of the security cable, the number of security plates and the kind of lock.
